Illustrated Head Shot of Neurobright Founder Shana Burg

Hi! I'm Shana - Mom, Teacher, Writer, AI Trainer

I help parents of neurodivergent kids use AI to create calmer days and kinder systems.

I’ve spent my career helping kids and families find their voice. I’ve taught over a hundred neurodivergent middle schoolers, written award-winning books for young readers, and navigated school systems as the mom of a neurodivergent child myself. I know what it’s like to care deeply about your child and still feel completely wrung out by the daily grind.

I studied education policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School, and I’m the author of two novels for young readers—A Thousand Never Evers and Laugh with the Moon—which together have sold nearly 100,000 copies and received honors including a Parents’ Choice Award and a starred review from Publishers Weekly. All of that experience shapes how I design Neurobright: grounded in evidence, full of heart, and always realistic about what family life is actually like.

Why I Started Neurobright

When AI burst onto the scene, I saw both the risks and the potential. Now, through Neurobright AI, I teach parents, educators, and organizations how to use AI in a calm, ethical, practical way—never replacing human connection, always supporting it.

Here at Neurobright AI, we’re honest about the scary uses of AI, but here at Neurobright we choose to channel this technology for good: to give families more agency, not less.

Together, we create everything from visual routines and printed comics to parent-designed micro-apps and audio prompts that walk your child through the day. We help your learn to harness AI to lower your stress and mental load, while supporting your child.

We’re super excited about the potential of AI to help level the playing field for neurodivergent kids, so their strengths can shine instead of getting buried under daily struggles.

My Screentime Philosophy

I don’t believe the answer is “no screens ever.” I also don’t believe in handing kids a device and hoping for the best.

Use AI Behind the Scenes

NB-Lightbulb

We treat AI as a tool for you, not something your child chats with. You use it behind the scenes to create offline support for you and for them.

Fewer, More Intentional Screens

NB-apps

Instead of an endless scroll, you choose a small set of on-purpose apps. Each one has a clear job to do, and when it’s done, that app goes off.

Protect Their Mind and Future

NB-Arrow Icon

You protect your child’s privacy and mental health while still helping them build the digital skills they’ll need to  thrive in our quickly-changing world.

You’ll never hear me promise a screen-free life. What I help you build is a screen-smart home where tech is in its place, AI is used for good, and your relationship with your child comes first.

Speaking and Training

I’ve spoken to more than 50,000 students, educators, and community members in schools and at events across the country. These days, I focus my speaking on parents, teachers, and organizations who want practical, hopeful guidance on AI and neurodiversity.

In addition to working directly with families through Neurobright, I speak at schools, conferences, and organizations about AI, neurodivergent kids, and screen-smart families.

My talks blend real-life stories, practical demos, and clear guardrails so audiences leave feeling informed—not terrified—and genuinely excited about how to use AI for good.

My Books

Before I founded Neurobright, I wrote novels for young readers about courage, justice, friendship, and loss. I also write for adults about how AI is reshaping creative work and everyday life. All of that storytelling shapes how I see kids today: as complex, capable humans with rich inner lives—never just a list of diagnoses.

For Young Readers

Book cover of A Thousand Never Evers showing the silhouette of a 12-year-old girl on a tree swing at sunset.

Set in 1963 Mississippi, A Thousand Never Evers follows twelve-year-old Addie Ann as she’s pulled into the civil rights movement and forced to decide what she’s willing to risk to stand up for what’s right.

Honors for this book include a Parents’ Choice Award,  selection as a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year, and several statewide reading lists.

For Young Readers

Book cover of Laugh with the Moon by Shana Burg showing silhouette of girl walking her bike and another girl carrying basket on her head.

In Laugh with the Moon, thirteen-year-old Clare is sent to rural Malawi after a family tragedy. There, she slowly finds friendship, joy, and a new sense of home—even while she’s grieving the one she lost.

The novel received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and has been used in classrooms and book clubs around the world.

For Adults

Poof! is a funny, fast-paced hybrid memoir/nonfiction book about what happens when AI crashes into a working writer’s life. Through my personal story, I explore creativity, work, and what makes us human.

Fun fact: Poof! briefly hit #1 in its Amazon category—nudging a book by Jeff Bezos out of the top spot for a day, which still makes me smile.
